The Summer Solstice (also known as Summer Festival, Summer Solstice Festival, English name: Summer Solstice) is one of the 24 solar terms and is also the earliest determined solar term. Its date is between June 20th and 22nd of the Gregorian calendar every year.
The summer solstice was also an important traditional festival (solar term) in ancient China. Before the Qing Dynasty, the whole country had a day off on the summer solstice, while in the Song Dynasty, all officials would have three days off. In the Liao Dynasty, "the summer solstice was called 'Chaojie', and women presented colorful fans and rouge sachets to each other as gifts." Colorful fans are used to drive away heat, and sachets can repel mosquitoes and suppress odors, which shows the importance that the ancients attached to the summer solstice. Since ancient times, eating noodles during the summer solstice is an important custom in many places. There are 10 days between each Geng day. The time from the first to the middle dog days is 10 days, and the last dog days is also 10 days. The middle dog days may be 10 days or 20 days. When there are 4 Geng days between the summer solstice and the beginning of autumn, the middle dog days is 10 days, and when there are 5 Geng days, it is 20 days.
