One day, it was the Frost Descent season. Zhu Yuanzhang, who had not eaten for several days, fainted from hunger and rolled down the hillside. Fortunately, he was stopped by an old persimmon tree and did not die. Zhu Yuanzhang, who was frightened awake, was pleasantly surprised to find that the old persimmon tree was full of persimmons. So, Zhu Yuanzhang climbed up the old persimmon tree and had a "feast" of persimmons, which saved his life. A few years later, Zhu Yuanzhang joined the rebel army and soon became a leader. After becoming the leader, Zhu Yuanzhang suffered from poor management and difficulty in development. It was Frost Descent again that year. Zhu Yuanzhang dreamed at night that a god was standing under a persimmon tree, smiling and saying to him, "Persimmons save my life, scholars govern the country." Li Shanchang did not disappoint Zhu Yuanzhang and soon helped his army get on the track of rapid development. In the third year of Hongwu, great honors were bestowed on meritorious officials. Zhu Yuanzhang wanted to confer the title of Duke on Li Shanchang, but he was worried that the military generals would object, so he deliberately tested the issue. Another Frost's Descent Day came, and Zhu Yuanzhang led Xu Da and other founding generals to the old persimmon tree. He told everyone the story of how he ate persimmons to save his life. When he was moved, he took off his big red cloak, draped it on the persimmon tree, and said: Persimmons save lives, scholars govern the country, and Persimmon should be named Lingshuang Hou! The generals were moved by Zhu Yuanzhang and did not show any objection. The next day, Zhu Yuanzhang issued an imperial edict to confer the title of Duke on Li Shanchang, Xu Da, Chang Yuchun's son Chang Mao, Li Wenzhong, Feng Sheng, Deng Yu and other six people, with Li Shanchang being the first. In ancient times, titles were divided into five levels, namely Duke, Marquis, Earl, Viscount, and Baron, with Duke being the highest title. Later, the saying "persimmons save lives" was passed down, and eating persimmons on the Frost Descent Day became the most important folk custom of the Frost Descent solar term. Legend 2: Legend has it that the Dragon King’s wife and daughter-in-law are always at odds, which is commonly known as “stubborn”. If both the mother-in-law and the daughter-in-law are equally “stubborn”, it is called “double stubborn”, which is homophonic with the Frost Descent solar term. It is said that every year at the end of autumn (usually three days before the Frost Festival in the lunar calendar), the Dragon King’s daughter-in-law looked at the heavy warehouses of grain and thought: “The crops are all stored in the warehouse, why not take a few days off in the sun?” But every time she asked her mother-in-law about this, the answer she got was always: “There is a lot of work to do, don’t always think about being lazy!” So the mother-in-law and the daughter-in-law started arguing with each other, their faces turned red, and neither side would give in. They were both like "stubborn oxen", and neither of them would heed any advice from the old Dragon King or the young Dragon King. The daughter-in-law was stubborn and the mother-in-law was angry. The two did not interact with each other for the past few days. The Dragon King and his son could only sigh: "Both women are so stubborn, this is called 'double stubbornness'!" Of course, life must go on. After all, the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law live in the same world and eat from the same pot. This kind of "double stubbornness" will not last long. In a fight between a mother-in-law and a daughter-in-law, either the daughter-in-law gives in first or the mother-in-law gives in first. Because it is the house of the Dragon King, therefore, within three days, no matter whether the daughter-in-law apologizes first or the mother-in-law gives in first, as long as they speak sincerely, there will be a clear sky for the 15th day of the Frost Descent solar term, which people call "dry yellow earth"; but if both parties only apologize superficially but are not convinced in their hearts, the weather will be unpredictable. For example, if the daughter-in-law apologizes to the mother-in-law first within three days, saying that she has lost the "stubbornness", but is actually unhappy and secretly crying, then the next fifteen days will be cloudy and rainy. If the mother-in-law apologizes to the daughter-in-law first, but is still angry and sulky in her heart, then the next fifteen days will be thunderstorms and even frost, which people call "rotten yellow earth". Legend three: Frost Descent is a solar term associated with a fairy sister. This woman's name is Wu Jie, also known as Qingnv. She is said to be the sister of Wu Gang, the one who chopped the osmanthus tree, and the goddess in charge of frost and snow. It is said in the Huainanzi Tianwen Xun: "In the third month of autumn, the earth's qi is no longer hidden, and it stops killing. All insects hibernate and stay indoors. Then the Blue Lady comes out to bring frost and snow." Gao You's note: "The Blue Lady is a celestial being, the Jade Lady of the Blue Sky, who is in charge of frost and snow."
