Why is the Little New Year different in the north and south?

In the ancient times, there was a tradition of "officials on the 23rd, common people on the 4th, and boatmen on the 5th", that is, the officials' New Year's Eve was on the 23rd, common people's was on the 24th, and people living on the water on the 25th. Nowadays, people in northern China mostly celebrate the Little New Year on the 23rd. As early as the Song Dynasty, there were records of celebrating the Little New Year on the 24th day of the twelfth lunar month, so the custom of celebrating the Little New Year on the 24th day of the twelfth lunar month has a longer history. However, in the Qing Dynasty, in order to save money, the emperor would worship the Kitchen God while offering sacrifices to the gods on the 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month every year. From then on, officials and civilians celebrated the Little New Year on different days. Also, because the central government of the Qing Dynasty was in Beijing, people in the north mostly chose to celebrate the Little New Year on the 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month, while many places in the south still celebrated the Little New Year on the 24th day of the twelfth lunar month. It can be said that the difference in the dates of the Little New Year between the north and the south is influenced by the official atmosphere.
