When is Jingzhe?

The Jingzhe Festival falls on March 5-6 every year. For example, the Jingzhe solar term in 2022 will fall on March 5th of the Gregorian calendar.
Jingzhe is the beginning of the Mao month in the Ganzhi calendar. Mao is the month of mid-spring. The hexagram is in the Zhen position, and all things emerge from Zhen, which is a sign of birth. There are twelve months in a year, and each month corresponds to a hexagram. The month of Mao (including the two solar terms of Jingzhe and Spring Equinox) corresponds to the hexagram of Thunder and Sky Da Zhuang. The image of the Da Zhuang hexagram is thunder in the sky, and the thunder sounds in the sky, which is very vivid. "Mao" means to emerge, and all things emerge from the ground, representing vitality; so Mao month (February) is also the month when the energy of all things bursts out, and the spring ploughing of the year begins from then on.

Why do we eat eggs during the Jingzhe Festival?

Eating eggs during the Waking of Insects season is actually related to the worship of the White Tiger. On the day of the Jingzhe solar term, there is a custom of offering sacrifices to the White Tiger.
It is said that in the early years, most of the believers who worshipped the White Tiger during the Jingzhe Festival in Singapore were from Guangdong. Now, it has become a tradition followed by people of different nationalities, and even some Indian compatriots follow suit. Due to the prevalence of Jingzhe sacrifices, many temples now have lower altars for offering sacrifices to the White Tiger to facilitate believers. The white tigers used for sacrifice usually have fangs and open mouths. Believers believe that if they smear lard on the white tiger's mouth during sacrifice, it will not be able to open its mouth to hurt people; and if they feed the white tiger with eggs, it will not hurt people after it is full.
Later, the custom of eating eggs on the day of Jingzhe was formed.
