Building houses in the east, west, south and north of a courtyard is called "a complete house". In the old days, there was a saying among the people that "if there is east but no west, the old wife will not exist; if there is west but no east, the husband will not exist; only in the north room, there is a king but no ministers", and the layout of the courtyard corresponds to the family members. The Siheyuan is a model of a "house with everything".
